Kitesurfing pioneers: the story of Mike Waltze

Mike Waltze lives and breathes Hawaii. The surfer-cinematographer was one of the first surfers to take on Jaws and to ride waves using ram air kites.

“I was born in Port Beach, California. I then moved with my sister to the island of Oahu, in Hawaii.

Born to be a surfer, I learned to windsurf in 1969 and was the only kid in my town in 1972 to own the famous “Windsurfer” board, which, at the time, was the only windsurfing board available on the market. Windsurfing as a sport had just started.
